Chicken Kofta with Garlic Yogurt Sauce is a flavorful Middle Eastern main course featuring spiced ground chicken formed into koftas, grilled to perfection, and served with a creamy and tangy garlic yogurt sauce. This gluten-free dish is perfect for a healthy and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

For the Kofta

  • 500 grams ground chicken
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for grilling)

For the Garlic Yogurt Sauce

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Kofta Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Form the Koftas: Shape the mixture into small oval-shaped koftas, roughly the size of a small meatball but elongated to an oval shape for even grilling.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking and to add flavor.
  4. Grill the Koftas: Place the koftas on the grill and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they are cooked evenly and all sides develop a nice char. Cook until fully cooked through and no longer pink in the center.
  5. Make the Garlic Yogurt Sauce: While the koftas are grilling or after they are done, mix plain yogurt with freshly squeezed lemon juice and a pinch of salt in a bowl until smooth and well combined to create the garlic yogurt sauce.
  6. Serve: Arrange the grilled koftas on a serving platter and serve with the garlic yogurt sauce on the side. Optionally, accompany with pita bread or rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, let the kofta mixture marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before forming and grilling.
  • Serve with warm pita bread or over a bed of rice to complete the meal.
  • Ensure the koftas are cooked thoroughly by checking for no pink inside before serving.
