These easy Pepperoni Rolls are fluffy, tender, and filled with classic mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they’re quick to prepare and ideal for sharing at any gathering.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed (thaw according to package directions)
  • 16 slices pepperoni (divided use)
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths (divided use)
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided use)

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • Splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper and set aside to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Place the thawed bread dough onto a clean surface. Cut the dough into 8 equal portions for even-sized rolls.
  3. Shape Dough: Flatten each dough piece into approximately a 4 by 4-inch circle using your hands, spreading gently.
  4. Add Filling: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each flattened dough piece. Then layer 2 slices of the cut mozzarella cheese on top of the pepperoni.
  5. Season: Sprinkle Italian seasoning evenly over the cheese for added flavor.
  6. Roll Dough: Fold the outer edges of the dough over the filling, then tightly roll each piece, pinching the seams to seal securely.
  7. Arrange Rolls: Place each roll seam side down on the lined sheet tray, spacing them so they don’t touch.
  8. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and a splash of water. Lightly brush this egg wash over the exposed dough on each roll to create a golden crust.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the rolls to cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before serving. These pairs wonderfully with pizza or marinara sauce, if desired.

Notes

  • You can add extra pepperoni or cheese for a richer filling.
  • Italian seasoning can be adjusted or substituted with dried oregano or basil to suit taste preferences.
  • Make sure the dough is thawed fully for easier handling and better texture.
  • Egg wash is important for beautiful color but can be omitted for an egg-free option.
  • Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
