This Cheeseburger French Fry Casserole is a deliciously comforting dish that combines seasoned ground beef, crispy frozen French fries, and melted cheddar cheese baked to perfection. Enhanced with classic burger condiments and optional diced onions and pickles, it’s an easy-to-make, crowd-pleasing casserole perfect for a casual dinner or potluck.

Ingredients

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup diced onions (optional)
  • ½ cup diced pickles (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 package (about 20 oz) frozen French fries (crinkle-cut or regular)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or American cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ground Beef: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder if using. Cook for about 6-7 minutes until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add Condiments: Stir ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise into the cooked beef until well combined. Mix in diced onions and pickles if desired. Set aside the beef mixture.
  3. Layer the Casserole: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the frozen French fries evenly on the bottom, then pour and spread the beef mixture evenly over the fries.
  4. Top with Cheese: Generously sprinkle shredded cheddar or American cheese over the top of the beef and fries, covering the entire surface.
  5. Bake the Casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the fries are crispy.
  6. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve immediately. Enjoy with extra ketchup or mustard on the side if preferred.

Notes

  • You can substitute American cheese for a more classic cheeseburger flavor.
  • Optional diced onions and pickles add authentic burger elements but can be omitted.
  • To make cleanup easier, line your baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Ensure to drain excess grease after cooking the beef for a less greasy casserole.
  • Feel free to customize by adding other favorite burger toppings like jalapeños or bacon bits.
  • This recipe is best served fresh but leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
