This classic Mojito cocktail is the world’s most refreshing drink, perfect for hot summer days or any time you crave a fresh, minty flavor. Made with lime juice, white rum, sugar syrup, and mint leaves, topped with club soda, it’s a vibrant Cuban cocktail that’s simple to prepare and incredibly delicious.

Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 30ml / 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 30ml / 1 oz homemade sugar syrup (equal parts water and white sugar, heated until dissolved and cooled)
  • 60ml / 2 oz white rum (Bacardi recommended)
  • 125ml / 1/2 cup club soda / soda water

Herbs

  • 10 fresh mint leaves

Garnishes

  • Lime wedges or slices
  • Mint sprigs

Instructions

  1. Combine Lime Juice, Rum, and Sugar Syrup: In a tall glass, pour in the fresh lime juice, white rum, and homemade sugar syrup. This forms the flavorful base of your Mojito.
  2. Muddle the Mint Leaves: Use a muddler or pestle to gently bruise the mint leaves in the glass to release their fresh aroma and oils. If you don’t have a muddler, crush the mint leaves well in your hands before adding to the glass.
  3. Add Ice and Soda: Fill the glass with ice cubes, then pour over the club soda or soda water. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients evenly without losing the carbonation.
  4. Garnish and Serve: Add a slice or wedge of lime and a sprig of mint for an attractive presentation. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshest taste and fizz.

Notes

  • Use sugar syrup instead of granulated sugar because it dissolves easily and blends seamlessly into the cocktail.
  • Choose any good quality white rum, with Bacardi being a popular brand for Mojitos.
  • Club soda or soda water is preferred because it is artificially carbonated and neutral in flavor; avoid naturally sparkling mineral water which may alter the taste.
  • A muddler is ideal for bruising mint leaves to release flavor, but a pestle or hand crushing works well if you don’t have one.
  • Avoid muddling lime wedges to prevent bitterness from the lime pith affecting the drink’s flavor; measuring fresh lime juice is more precise and cleaner.
